Success starts with eight words: Listen to your hopes and not your fears. And every day there's signs that our hopes can come true -- and ways to help make it happen.
First, Democrats taking back the House in 2018. If we want that to happen, then we should be donating money to the DCCC now -- early donations can be used to raise more donations, effectively doubling and re-doubling their size until election day. And there's a few special elections happening right now, so you could give money or volunteer your time to call voters.
These early elections are important, because if Democrats pull off an upset or two, it becomes harder to convince Republican donors (and candidates) to go all in on later elections (since the electorate is against them this cycle). This has a domino effect on all the elections that happen in 2018. (Remember, that election is now just 19 months away).
Also, winning big in 2018 and 2020 is the only thing that will allow Democrats to un-gerrymander Congressional districts; otherwise we're stuck with the way things are until after the next census in 2030.
But there's something more. If the Democrats take back Congress, they can launch a bunch of investigations of their own. And I think I heard that they can also ask the IRS to release Trump's tax returns. I think if Trump knew he'd be facing a hostile Congress and the threat of all those revelations, he might actually just resign on his own.
Trump is actually so ineffective, I wonder if it's better to have him in the presidency than Pence (who could actually get things done). So I think a best-case scenario is that the Democrats take back the House, and then Trump resigns. That way there's never a Republican congress sending Republican bills for Republican president Pence to sign.
And the good news is America would be ready to "swing back" and elect a crazy-good uber-left liberal in 2020. (I hear people talking about Elizabeth Warren.) If you believe that's coming, then you don't have to worry about things Trump is doing that can easily be undone by the next administration. (Every executive order, for example, can be reversed.) And just Imagine it -- very liberal president, plus Democrats controlling the House and Senate. Packing the Supreme Court with liberal justices with lifetime appointments.
So one more time -- success starts with eight words. “Listen to your hopes and not your fear."
